ABOUT our Materials

Métier's journey has been one of purpose and responsibility. Founded and operated by women, our brand has always been driven by the ethos of being a sustainable and slow jewellery brand.

In choosing 9ct gold, we prioritize durability and affordability, creating pieces meant to stand the test of time. We embrace a circular approach to design, crafting jewellery that can be cleaned, repaired, and cherished for generations, avoiding the wasteful cycles of the fashion industry.

While we don't label ourselves as a sustainable brand, we walk the talk. An impressive 95% of the gold used in our jewellery is recycled, and our packaging is 100% recycled. Furthermore, we are dedicated to responsible sourcing, with diamonds procured from suppliers adhering to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS).

Our commitment extends to our workshops, where every piece is handcrafted in both the UK and India. We understand our social responsibility and ensure fair working conditions throughout the supply chain. This means fair wages, respected holidays, and safe, ethical workplaces for our teams.

At Métier, we define Demi fine as jewellery crafted from solid gold, excluding plated pieces from this category. In our collection, we do have some elements that are enamel covered solid silver, specifically the esprit enamel animals. However, the majority of our collection comprises solid 9ct or 14ct gold, along with enamel-plated gold. For us, Demi fine represents the enduring elegance and beauty of solid gold jewellery that stands the test of time, while still offering unique and exquisite designs for our valued customers.

At Métier, we carefully selected 9ct gold as the foundation for our collection to ensure a more accessible price point into solid gold jewellery. Pure gold, at 24ct, is too soft for everyday wear, so our 9ct gold, consisting of 37.5% gold, mixed with a minimum of 45% silver and 17.5% other non-nickel alloys, strikes the perfect balance of durability and elegance.

As our collection grew, we expanded our offerings to include 14ct gold, elevating the craftsmanship and allure of our pieces. 14ct gold, with 58.5% gold content, is ideal for exquisite statement pieces that withstand the test of time.

Jewellery Care

Precious metals and stones are not indestructible. We recommend that you remove jewellery before actives such as sport, swimming, DIY or gardening. Sleeping in your jewellery is not advised, especially earrings with scroll backs or delicate items that could become misshapen, stretched or crushed. Delicate chains can also become stretched with wear.
Our jewellery is made of solid 9ct or 14ct gold, with the exception of the enamel Espirit Collection which features solid gold loops and enamel covered sterling silver. Extra care should be taken when wearing jewellery made with enamel, mother of pearl, emeralds, opals or turquoise. When wearing these, you should avoid contact with chemicals such as those in perfumes, moisturisers, essential oils and swimming pool water.

While the silver alloy in our 9ct and 14ct gold jewellery may cause tarnishing when exposed to chemicals or skin oils, regular cleaning is essential to maintain their radiant shine. Simply use warm water with detergent, a soft toothbrush for gentle brushing, and rinse with lukewarm water. After cleaning, let the jewellery air dry and store it in airtight boxes or bags for impeccable care and lasting beauty. With Métier's meticulously crafted 9ct and 14ct gold jewellery, you can embrace the elegance of solid gold in every precious piece.

Caring for your gemstone jewellery is crucial to maintain its beauty and longevity. To keep them looking their best, avoid exposing them to harsh chemicals, including household cleaners and perfumes, as these can damage both the gemstones and the metal settings. When not wearing your jewellery, store them separately to prevent scratches and tangling. Periodically clean your gemstone jewellery with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt and oil buildup. For a more thorough cleaning, use a mild detergent and a soft brush, such as a toothbrush, to gently scrub the gemstones. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean, lint-free cloth. Some gemstones, like pearls, opals, emeralds, and turquoise, require extra care

To care for your mother of pearl jewellery, avoid harsh chemicals and perfumes, and gently clean with a soft, damp cloth after each wear. Store it separately in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent scratching, and keep it away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid immersing in water or using harsh cleaning agents. Following these guidelines will help maintain the natural beauty and shine of your mother of pearl jewellery for years to come.

To care for enamel plated gold jewellery, avoid harsh chemicals and handle it with care to prevent chipping or scratching. Clean gently with a soft cloth after each wear and store separately to prevent scratching and tangling. Limit exposure to water and note that no plating is permanent. If and when the enamel plating does wear off, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us about our re-enamelling service. We are here to help restore the beauty of your jewellery and ensure you continue to enjoy its charm for years to come
